Fore Georgia Magazine previews the 2012 GSGA tournament schedule, with a focus on the Georgia Amateur Championship to be held at Ansley Golf Club’s Settindown course July 12 - 15, 2012.

This fact confirms Settindown's reputation as a premier championship venue:

The five-year gap between GSGA Amateur Championships at Settindown Creek is the shortest since the Savannah Sheraton Resort (now Wilmington Island Club) hosted the event in 1979 and 1984.

And this shows Settindown’s tradition of identifying a worthy well as its resistance to scoring:

The last time Settindown Creek hosted the State Am, soon-to-be UGA freshman Harris English edged out a sizable group of the state’s top mid-amateurs to win by one stroke with an even par 288 total.

English became the second Georgia Bulldog on his way to the PGA Tour to win a statewide event at Settindown Creek, joining 2003 Georgia Open champion Justin Bolli, who won on a course just a few miles from where he attended high school (Roswell).

The entry period for registering for the Georgia Amateur is March 28 - May 9.  Eleven 18-hole qualifying tournaments around the state will determine the field, including a qualifier at Settindown on Tuesday, June 12.  This will likely fill up fast, as many players from around the state will want a preview of Settindown.  Low handicappers from Ansley are encouraged to enter early if they want to enjoy a home-course advantage in the qualifying stage.
